In various Churches in the Philippines, the faithful gathered to celebrate and to get to know more about the saint who was martyred in Guam.
At the Good Shepherd Convent, the Sunday Mass presided by Fr. Nonong Pili was also a celebration for the second Filipino saint. In 1987, St. Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila was declared a saint by Pope John Paul II, only six years after he was beatified at the Luneta during JP II's papal visit in February 1981.
After communion, Sr. Angela Battung, a Filipina missionary to Canada, who attended the Centennial Celebration of the Good Shepherd Sisters in the country, was also blessed as she was going back to her mission. She and 17 missionaries attended the Centennial celebrations. Today there are 32 Filipina Good Shepherd overseas missionaries.
