Sisters' Day at SBC Batangas

Due to floods caused by heavy monsoon rains and typhoon Maring, work and classes in the National Capital Region and several provinces, including Batangas, were suspended. At the Good Shepherd Convent in Quezon City,  a Eucharistic Celebration was presided by Fr. Roque D'Acosta CSC, on the feast of St. John Eudes. St. Bridget College's Elementary Department will hold Sisters' Day on August 19 in Batangas City. Sr. Florencia Tio, local leader of SBC Community, said the program will include sharing of vocation stories of Good Shepherd Sisters to elementary pupils. She said each sister will be invited to talk to the Bridgetines in their respective classrooms or, may be asked certain questions by the students. This initiative is aimed at awakening the awareness of Bridgetines about religious vocation for men or women, and see it as a possible life option. Sisters from various communities in the country will attend the celebration. This year, St. Bridget College is celebrating its Centennial of opening a catholic education in Batangas. It was in January 1913 that St. Bridget opened its doors to students, only several months after the arrival of the first Irish RGS assigned in Myanmar. SBC Alitagtag was opened in 2007.St. Bridget College is the first foundation of the Good Shepherd Sisters in the Philippines. Today, there are 26 communities of apostolic and contemplative sisters in the country. In 2012, Sisters' Day was jointly organized by the Elementary and High School Departments. SBC President is Sr. Lydia Ebora. This year, the High School Department organized Priests' Day, held on August 13.
