St. Bridget College in Batangas City launches February 3-5, 2010, the Centennial of the first school administered by Good Shepherd Sisters in the Philippines.
With the theme, "Cherishing our Legacy," the launching will begin in the morning of February 3 with a Eucharistic Celebration to be presided by Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, Archbishop Ramon Arguelles of Lipa, Bridgetines and Eudist priests.
Good Shepherd Sisters, the school faculty and students will also remember and honor the founding saints. They will also unveil a photo exhibit. In the afternoon, a Food and Trade Fair, Amusements and Palarong Pinoy will be held at the school grounds.
The second day, February 4, activities include field demonstration of the arrival of the Good Shepherd Sisters in the Philippines, the coming of missionaries, film showing, RGS Mini-trade fair, circus show at the field, and photo shots.
The third day, February 5 will be devoted to the field demonstration of the growth of the Good Shepherd congregation in the Philippines, particularly the founding of communities in Batangas, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
A concert by Freestyle Band will be held in the evening.
The Good Shepherd Sisters arrived in the Philippines on October 4, 1912 and proceeded to Batangas City to found its first community and to begin a school that would provide Catholic education to the young. St. Bridget Academy, now St. Bridget College, opened January 1913.
Both Cardinal Rosales and Archbishop Arguelles studied at the grade school department of St. Bridget College.
