The new store of Bahay Pastulan in Sta. Rosa, Tagaytay was blessed on July 28.
The blessing was attended by Good Shepherd Sisters from various communities in Batangas, Baguio, Cavite, Isabela and the National Capital Region (NCR), mission partners and men and women engaged in the eco-justice project of Bahay Pastulan.
Presider of the blessing was Fr. Ron Bagley of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary (CJM).
Sr. M. Joseph Olaguer of Bahay Pastulan, in her Introduction, underscored the importance of providing income-generating projects to that sisters can assist the poor and escape from poverty. She said:“Dear Friends and Sisters and all who have come to join us for this rite of Blessing. Good morning and welcome! What we see immediately are a building, a garden, and a spacious lot for parking. But at the center of this setting is a statue of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. And that explains the real purpose for this store in this place. Through it, we hope to continue in the realization of a “Direction Statement” of our Congregation’s General Chapter in 2003. The Directive says: “ We af firm that, in keeping with our desire to be life-bearers with and for the poor of the world, projects that assist people to escape from poverty (e.g. income-generating, micro-credit and marketing projects) be seen as authentic and important ministries in the Congregation today.”
Towards this end, our own Philippine Province Chapter in 2008 mandated: “Generate resources toward sustainability and ensure responsible management at the service of mission.” May God bless our initiatives for mission.
During the blessing, the staff of Bahay Pastulan, the women and men living in the neighborhood of Maryridge, also participated in the liturgy and music of the rites. The new Bahay Pastulan store offers a bigger parking space for those coming to buy the products and supporting the projects that help poor women and children.
Production will continue in the former Bahay Pastulan site near Maryridge.
Sr. Carmelita Cruz, local leader of Maryridge-Bahay Pastulan community thanked those who came and made the project possible. "So many people have made this new place of mission possible. “Thank you” to all of you! We would like to note the presence of some who made this dream into a reality: our own Province leaders in the Congregation for their permission, support and encouragement; Malou Abordo, our surveyor who found this place and brought us here; Atty. Tony and Ruby Borja, owners of the land, who sold us this place on terms possible for us; our contractors Engr. Eliseo Lagman and Engr. Mario Pulmano, Jr.; Architect Nina Santamaria; Atty. Lolita de Villa who took care of all the documents to transfer the title to our name; our faithful foremen, the brothers Sergio and Jayson Bulosan; Dolores Munar who added beauty through the landscape; Lily Semana for the statue of the Good Shepherd; our Barangay Captain who gave us the first clearance needed; our kind neighbors who helped us with the much-needed light and water and the security felt by the carpenters and all the workers when construction started; And all who worked here from day one to now. Fr. Ron who came to bless Bahay Pastulan; all of you our friends and staff (our partners in mission) who are with us today: To you all: Maraming salamat po!"
Bahay Pastulan has become famous for its line of products, Ube Jam, Ube Dimples, Buko Pie, Buko tart, Maka-Nata, Halo-halo sweets, cuchipan, among others. The communities who came from the other regions were in Tagaytay after a cluster meeting in preparation for the 2014 Province Chapter.
