Mission Assignments 2013-2014 and Update on Filipina Overseas Missionaries

Sr. M. Cecilia Torres, province leader, announced on April 24, the feast of St. Mary Euphrasia, the new mission assignments of the Philippine Province of the Good Shepherd for 2013-2014.

New local leaders

The newly- appointed local leaders include: Sr. M. Loreen Granada (St. Bridget School, Quezon City; Sr. M. Jane Pineda, (Welcome House); Sr. M. Christina Sevilla (St. Bridget School- Buhi, Camarines Sur), Sr. Marie Goretti Bool (CGS-Tagaytay City); Sr. Ma. Magdalena Saavedra (Reach-out Davao); and Sr. M. Angelita Clemen (Kalilid Community).

There are 22 apostolic and 4 contemplative communities in the Philippines. About 200 Filipina Good Shepherd Sisters serve in the Philippines and abroad.

Sr. M. Cecilia also sent the latest missionary from the Philippines to foreign mission. Sr. M. Lourdes Sevilla who returned from her mission in the Sector of Kenya in October 2012 was sent to the Province of Japan upon the request of Sr. Regina Munemoto, province leader. Sr. M. Lourdes left for her mission on March 24, 2013. She was also in Japan as a missionary from 1999-2005. With this new assignment, the Philippines has three missionaries to Japan, the two other missionaries are Sr. M. Celeste Yuzon and Sr. M. Mercy Ang.

From Innsbruck, Austria to Mid North America

Sr. Magdalena Oliva and Sr. Elizabeth Garciano, who have been in Innsbruck, Austria as contemplative missionaries since 2000  are now in Mid-North America. The two contemplative sisters along with Sr. Celeste Engutan, who returned to the Philipines in 2003, began a community in Innsbruck as part of refounding of contemplatives in Europe. They were invited by Sr. Melitta Fragner, provincial at that time. Sr. Elena Jalop joined the community in 2005 and returned to the Philippines in 2012.

Srs. Magdalena and Sr. Elizabeth and the Austrian contemplative Anna Maria wrote a letter to the congregation recently about continuing their mission as contemplatives in Mid-North America and France.

From Angola to Kenya

Our Filipina contemplative Sr. Fe de Paz and the members of the international contemplative community for Africa, who since the foundation of the community have been based in Angola,  moved to Kenya. The international community for Africa was originally intended to be founded in Kenya. The international community is composed of Sr. Fe, Philippines; Sr. Tresina Padingarekara, India; Sr. Ae Sun Hyun, South Korea; Sr. Manel Liyanaarchii and Sr. Cassia Maria Cordeiro Martins of Brazil.

Their new convent in Kenya was blessed on April 23 by Rt. Rev. John Oballa, bishop of the Catholic Diocse of Ngong.
