Baguio City - (By Sr. M. Guadalupe Bautista RGS)
The Technical Educational Skills Development Authority or TESDA agreed to enter into partnership with Mountain Maid Training Center. It has long been our desire that students , who after being trained from three to five years in food processing and baking, receive a National Certificate Level II (NC II). This will give them an advantage when seeking employment or when deciding to become entrepreneurs. Besides their diploma in a four-year course or a two-year vocational and technical course, a National Certificate Level II from TESDA is a bonus.
Last May 31 and June 1, 2012, TESDA sent Ms. Shirley Kael to conduct a certification process to test the skills of thirty (33) student-workers and staff. All thirty three passed the practical, hands-on screening. One recommendation of Ms. Kael is the use of proper footwear in the food production area, (no rubber slippers allowed).
Food Processing for National Certicate Level II includes knowledge and skills in the following food products: ube jam, orange marmalade, sayote pickles, gherkins, sweet & sour pickles, mango jam, strawberry jam, peanut brittle, healthy chicken and pork tucino (no preservatives & food color) and skinless longanisa.
The next certification will be in August 2012 in Baking Breads & Pastries and Cookies.
