Good Shepherd Sisters join the rest of the world in observing Earth Hour from 8:30-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012.
In Quezon City, sisters gathered at the Good Shepherd Chapel to spend an hour of silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Lights were turned off at the chapel and other buildings. Only the vigil candles around the Blessed Sacrament were lit.
Earth hour is also called as Earth Power Hour, Live Earth Hour and Earth 60. Earth Hour sends the message that we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the short and long term benefit of the planet. Earth Power Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of sustainability issues.
Hundreds of icons and landmarks around the world turned their lights off for Earth Hour 2012. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Rome’s Colosseum, the CN Tower in Toronto, and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco turned their lights off for World Earth Hour 2012.
It was in 2007 that Earth Hour was begun in Sydney, Australia and in 2008 it became a global effort to draw attention to climate change. In the Philippines, communities observe Earth Hour not only on the last Saturday of March as it is observed worldwide, but every Saturday night from 8-9 p.m.
