Good Shepherd Sisters, apostolic and contemplative, lay mission partners, staff, women and families served will hold on Sunday, February 12 the Cavite Regional Celebration as part of the 2012 Centennial of Good Shepherd Sisters' presence in the Philippines. Venue is Maryridge, Tagaytay.
It was on October 4, 1912 that the Good Shepherd Sisters arrived in the Philippines from Rangoon. They were Irish Sisters who were sent by Sr. Domitilla Larose. Superior General, to explore the possibilities of opening a new foundation in the country as requested by Bishop Giuseppe Petrelli of Lipa Diocese. The new foundation, St. Bridget Academy, now St. Bridget College, was an answer to the request for a catholic education in Batangas.
Since July 31, 2011, the Journey of the Centennial Shepherd Staff has begun, that first region visited was Batangas -St. Bridget College and SBC Alitagtag, and on September 8, the staff was brought to Quezon City for the NCR Regional Celebration. While in the NCR, the staff visited the various communities- Euphrasian Community, Good Shepherd Community, St. Bridget School- QC, Heart of Mary Villa, Welcome House/Malate, Tahanan, Provincialate, Formation Houses and St. John's Compound. The staff's journey continued to Cebu on November 20, 2011, then to Baguio on January 5, 2011.
On February 12, the Good Shepherd Sisters from Baguio will turn over the Centennial Staff to the Cavite Region where it will visit the communities in Maryridge, Bahay Pastulan and Contemplatives of the Good Shepherd in Tagaytay, and the Bukid Kabataan in General Trias.
A Karakol, or street dancing will begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by a Eucharistic Celebration to be presided by Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto, apostolic nuncio to the Philippines. Homilist is Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle, of the Archdiocese of Manila. Archbishop Tagle was formerly Bishop of Imus (in Cavite) until he was appointed Archbishop of Manila by Pope Benedict XVI, and installed on December 12, 2011.
Video presentations on the history of the Good Shepherd Sisters in the Philippines will be presented during the celebration.
