AMRSWP holds 2010 Convention in Tagaytay

The Association of Major
Religious Superiors of Women in the Philippines (AMRSWP) holds its 2010
Convention from July 5-8 in Tagaytay City.

The AMRSWP is a member of the AMRSP (Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines).

The theme of the
convention is "Spirituality of Power.. From Control to Compassion."

More than  a hundred superiors of women who are gathered
at the St. Scholastica's Center for Spirituality for this year’s .convention.
According to information from the Steering Committee the theme of this
convention “calls us to review our use of power, discern our leadership styles,
our work ethics, relationships, personal and corporate values and institutional
behavior. We thus affirm that leadership is not a domination but an
accompaniment characterized by compassion and trust.”

The objectives of the
convention are:  1) to have an in-depth
and honest reflection on  one’s style of
leadership, 2) to gain insights from shared experiences, common concerns and
problems; and 3) to foster discernment processes in handling problems and
challenges in religious communities.

In a letter to major
superiors, Sr. Mary John Mananzan OSB, chairperson on AMRSWP, said that  “partnership in bringing about transformation
in our Church and society will make us more united in our  efforts to lead by example and anchored on a
love-driven Leadership.

Sr. Cecilia Torres RGS,
province leader, is attending this annual convention. Sr. Cecilia was not able
to attend last year’s convention as she was in Angers, France for the 29th Congregational Chapter of  Good Shepherd Sisters.

Fr. Percy Bacani MJ is
the keynote speaker and Sr. Mary John will also give an input. Scheduled also during
the meeting is the election of AMRSWP Officers.

Reports from Mission
Partners will be presented. Other groups who will report  include:  The Institute of Formation and Religious Studies (IFRS) represented by
Sr. Corazon Demetillo RGS, Union of Superiors’ General (UISG) Report by Sr.
Cecile Bayona AMP and Sr. M. Evelyn Aguilar RVM, and the Report of the
Episcopal Commission on Mutual Relations Between Bishops and Religious  (ECMR).

The AMRSWP and  Association of Major Religious Superiors of
Men in the Philippines (AMRSMP) form a joint forum called the AMRSP.  The AMRSMP (men religious) was formed in 1955
while the AMRSWP (women religious) was formed in 1957.
