Good Shepherd Sisters from various communities with the students and staff of St. Bridget School (SBS) in Quezon City prayed and lit candles on December 3 for the victims of Maguindanao massacre.
Held at the school grounds of SBS in Aurora Bouleavard, the afternoon prayers also called for justice for the victims of the massacre, especially women and children.
Participants prayed the Rosary holding banners and sheets of paper bearing the names of the victims.
Reports said the Maguindanao massacre victims were in a 60-vehicle convoy, led by Genalyn Mangudadatu who was on her way to submit the certificate of candidacy of her husband for the 2010 Elections. The convoy was stopped by armed men allegedly led by Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. of Datu Unsay, Maguindanao. The bullet-riddled bodies of the victims were recovered on separate dates in Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
Sr. Maureen Catabian RGS, coordinator of Women-Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (W-JPIC ) Office and five high school students led the recitation of the Rosary.
Many Good Shepherd Sisters, apostolic and contemplative, who were present at the prayers were in Quezon City for a two-day Province Teams meeting. The teams include Ministry/W-JPIC, Formation, MARTA (Material Resources), Good Shepherd Partnership and Province Leadership Team. The teams met 1) to share stories of highlights, challenges and hopes; 2). to weave the “newness” in our Province Team plans; and to celebrate the blessings of the year. The theme of the meeting was, "Weaving Strands of Newness."
Sr. Maureen said Good Shepherd Sisters and lay partners in the Philippine Province are united with all peace-loving people as we offer prayers of solidarity for the victims of the massacre and their families. She enjoined all students and staff of SBS and Good Shepherd Sisters to pray fervently for peace and justice, in the country, especially in Mindanao.
